We started the second portion of our summer schedule with some good play at the West Alabama Exposure Tournament this past weekend in Tuscaloosa.
We beat the Vipers-Dickerson team 4-1 in our first pool game, lost the West Florida Elite team in a tight 3-1 game, and tied the Jasper Rookies 1-1 in our last pool game on Saturday.
In bracket play, we came from behind in our last at bat vs. the Titans Blue to win 3-2, and then lost to the ultimate tourney champion Bandits Gold 4-1.
We left a couple of wins on the field during the weekend, but we played much better and much more consistently this weekend. We had more spectacular defensive plays in one weekend than I can remember. We continue to pitch well, and we executed well in the short game and baserunning.
We walked away from the weekend encouraged by the improvement, but disappointed at not doing everything we needed to do -- especially mentally -- to get the wins that were there for us. But we know what we need to do, and what that looks like and feels like -- and that's an important step in continuing to improve.
