Southeastern Exposure Tourney Recap

Just got in from a hot Sunday at Liberty Park. We went 3-2 for the weekend -- beat the Twisters 94 1-0 on Friday, lost to the Mississippi Motion team 8-0 on Saturday, beat the Knoxville Lady Eagles 8-5 in our first game on Sunday, beat the North Alabama Explosion 9-0 in our second game and lost to Blitz Fastpitch from Georgia in our final game 6-2.

Our 3-2 mark for the weekend moves us to a record of 6-7 for the year.

We improved on some things this weekend -- we hit better, we executed our short game better, pitching was generally good. But we didn't play well in our two losses, especially the game on Saturday, which was probably our worst defensive game in three years.

Overall, I think we can say we improved over the previous week, but only by the slimmest of margins.

We will take Tuesday off this week, practice on Thursday at Hoover Central, and then we will be off next weekend completely. Looking forward to a good practice on Thursday, but I think a little time off will be good for us, since we pretty much have been playing straight through since the end of school ball.

First tourney recap

We played in the Birmingham Vipers Memorial Day Tourney this past weekend. Weather was hot and dry for a tournament that has had rain issues that last two or three years.

We went 2-3 in the tourney -- not an outstanding showing, but an OK start to the season.

Scores:

Pool play: Beat Vipers-Gillespie 4-2, lost to Mobile Gen X Thrillers/Vipers X 5-0, lost to the Louisiana Lady Hawks 4-0.

Tourney play: Beat the Louisiana High Voltage 3-2 in ITB, lost to the Georgia Elite Gold 5-3.

So, we go back to work to get better. We have practice tonight to work on some of our issues from this weekend, and a practice game at Birmingham Southern College on June 2 vs. the Killin' Time team from Tuscaloosa.

We will be playing this weekend in Auburn in the Alabama 18U State Qualifier. We are expecting to see some good teams again this weekend, and I'm expecting improvement in all areas of our game.
