Southeastern Exposure Tourney Recap

Just got in from a hot Sunday at Liberty Park. We went 3-2 for the weekend -- beat the Twisters 94 1-0 on Friday, lost to the Mississippi Motion team 8-0 on Saturday, beat the Knoxville Lady Eagles 8-5 in our first game on Sunday, beat the North Alabama Explosion 9-0 in our second game and lost to Blitz Fastpitch from Georgia in our final game 6-2.

Our 3-2 mark for the weekend moves us to a record of 6-7 for the year.

We improved on some things this weekend -- we hit better, we executed our short game better, pitching was generally good. But we didn't play well in our two losses, especially the game on Saturday, which was probably our worst defensive game in three years.

Overall, I think we can say we improved over the previous week, but only by the slimmest of margins.

We will take Tuesday off this week, practice on Thursday at Hoover Central, and then we will be off next weekend completely. Looking forward to a good practice on Thursday, but I think a little time off will be good for us, since we pretty much have been playing straight through since the end of school ball.

Auburn ASA Qualifier Recap

The good news is that we got a trophy for finishing third in the ASA 18U National Qualifier at Auburn this weekend.

That's tempered a great deal by the fact that there were just four teams in the tourney.

We went 1-2 for Saturday -- we beat the Bama Babes Elite 4-2, lost the Gen X/Vipers team 6-0 and lost to North Alabama Kraze 4-3. We played pretty good defense in the Gen X/Vipers game, but in both losses, we were able to get runners in scoring position, but then couldn't get them in.

If we keep pitching and playing defense like we have, our hitting will come around, as long as we keep working on our mental toughness and being ready for the moment.

We need to have two good practices this week ahead of our next tourney, which will be the Southeastern Exposure tourney at Liberty Park this weekend.
